Rise on Boards+ | Cohort 3

My name is Dakha Omar, and I’m a Master of Social Work student at the University of Ottawa. I work in social services with the City of Ottawa, where I support community-based approaches. Beyond my studies, I’ve mentored two cohorts of young Black women in leadership and project management through a local nonprofit, helping them grow their skills and confidence.

I also founded a nonprofit that connects Muslim seniors and adults with culturally sensitive personal support workers and mental health resources, in collaboration with community partners. I’m passionate about strengthening representation in decision-making spaces and learning how governance can drive real community impact. Through Rise on Boards, I hope to build the skills and perspective to serve effectively and contribute meaningfully to organizations creating social change.
