Shivani Nathoo [she/her]

Shivani Nathoo (she/her) is a Professional Engineer and a Power System Planner with the Independent Electricity Systems Operator (IESO), where she serves as an active member of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee.

She has been part of international task forces working to improve demand forecasting, and has also been a part of Climate READi, an initiative working to incorporate climate change impacts into power system design and planning. Prior to the IESO, she worked in the Smart Grid and Asset Management group at Hatch Ltd.

As the child of Indian South Africans who left the country during apartheid, Shivani is extremely passionate about promoting equity broadly within society, and within engineering. She currently serves as the Chair of the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Task Force with the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers.

She holds a Bachelor’s of Applied Science in Energy Systems Engineering from the University of Toronto, where she served as President of the Engineering Society. She also served on the U of T Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering’s Faculty Council and the Decanal Task Force on Mental Health.
