Rise on Boards+ | Cohort 2
I'm a Toronto-based public servant and community organizer focused on making institutions more responsive to the people they serve. In my role at the City of Toronto, I coordinate projects that bridge the gap between policy and community needs - whether that's improving internal communications, streamlining engagement processes, or ensuring programs actually reach those who need them most. My work extends beyond City Hall. I've produced documentaries centering marginalized voices, mentored university students navigating institutional barriers, and collaborated on initiatives that address systemic inequities. What ties these experiences together is a commitment to practical change - not just talking about equity, but finding concrete ways to make systems work better.
I'm interested in governance because real progress happens when decision-making tables include people who understand both how institutions operate and where they fall short. The Rise on Boards program represents an opportunity to bring my on-the-ground perspective to spaces where it can create meaningful impact. When I'm not working, you'll find me exploring Toronto's arts and culture scene, digging into a new nonfiction read, or testing out recipes from my Somali heritage.
