ROOM TO GROW
Leadership Forum 2026
A full-day experience for the people navigating what's next, and those with the power to shape it.
On October 20th, 2025, young change-makers, sectoral leaders, and passionate mentors will come together in Toronto for our biggest event of the year.
YMCA Toronto Central | 20 Grosvenor St, Toronto, ON
Some doors open because of talent and hard work. Others open because someone made room.
Fora's 2026 Leadership Forum is a full-day experience for the people navigating what's next and those with the power to shape it. We're living through layoffs, economic uncertainty, and a political landscape that is actively reshaping who has access to opportunity and who gets left behind. Now more than ever, the skills you build, the relationships you cultivate, and the doors you choose to open for others matter.
On October 20th in Toronto, 200 participants will come together for honest conversation, experiential learning, and connections that promote growth. Participants will engage in panel discussions grounded in Fora's gender-equity research, attend workshops on negotiation, AI literacy, and strategic networking, and have the opportunity to be speed-mentored. This event is for young women and gender-marginalized leaders between the ages of 18–29, alongside managers, executives, mentors, board members, and community leaders who have the ability to influence who gets hired, sponsored, nominated, and invited into the room.
So whether you're mapping your next move, learning to advocate for yourself, stepping into your influence, or figuring out how to open more doors for others, Room to Grow is what you need.
Talent is everywhere. Opportunity still isn't. This event is here to change that.
WHAT WILL BE COVERED
At Fora, we believe in the power of bringing together an intergenerational community of feminist leaders, gender equity advocates, and change-makers, united by a shared commitment. At this year’s Forum, the commitment we invite you to share in is one around making room to grow—for ourselves, our peers, and future generations. You’ll have the chance to discuss the realities of today’s rapidly changing economy with like-minded individuals, practice skills that will stand the test of time, and nurture relationships within this community so that we can offer one another better support.
You can look forward to interactive panel discussions, hands-on workshops, a Speed Mentoring Session, and more. Every session is built around doing, not just listening. Throughout the day, you’ll be able to capture insights in your Leadership Forum workbook, ensuring you walk away with concrete reflections, a personal action plan, and new connections to carry forward. Topics include negotiating your worth, using AI with confidence and ethics, building an authentic network, and creating equitable pathways to opportunity, all grounded in Fora's own research.

Panel A: Creating Opportunity in a Changing World
DETAILS:
Career paths have never been perfectly linear, but right now, they're being redrawn entirely. Layoffs, automation, shifting workplace expectations, and an increasingly complex political and economic landscape are changing how people access opportunities, build careers, and enter leadership. And while these shifts are affecting everyone, young women and gender-marginalized people continue to face the steepest barriers, not because of a lack of skill, ambition, or experience, but because of who still controls the room.In this opening panel, leaders from across sectors will share honest reflections on their own career journeys, from the pivots and rejections to the moments when someone opened a door (and the moments they had to build one themselves).
Together, they'll explore what it takes to navigate opportunity in today's world and what personal agency and collective responsibility actually look like in practice. This is a space for real conversation about what leaders, organizations, and institutions need to do differently to ensure talent doesn't go to waste.

WORKSHOP A:
The Skills That Don't Expire: As artificial intelligence and automation continue to reshape the world of work, it can be hard to know which skills are worth investing in. This workshop explores the intersection of technological change and human-centred leadership. You'll examine emerging workplace trends, take stock of the strengths you already bring, and identify the skills that remain valuable no matter what comes next.
WORKSHOP B:
Closing the AI Gap: AI is already in your workplace, whether your organization has a policy for it or not. This practical, honest workshop is designed for leaders who want to engage with emerging technology thoughtfully. You'll develop a foundational understanding of how AI works, explore real ways it can support your productivity and growth, and examine the ethical considerations that matter, from bias to privacy to equity. No technical background required.
SPEED MENTORSHIP SESSION:
A fast-paced, dialogue-driven experience that connects participants with experienced mentors from across industries, sectors, and career paths. Through a series of rotating one-on-one conversations, you'll gain practical insights and grounded advice from people who've navigated similar journeys, leaving with a wider network and new connections built on shared purpose.

Panel B: The Power of Opportunity
DETAILS:
Talent, hard work, and qualifications matter. But they are rarely enough on their own. Opportunities are frequently shaped by who gets recommended, invited into conversations, nominated for leadership roles, and advocated for when they're not in the room. That's not a bug in the system. It’s the system.
Grounded in insights from Fora's own research report, "Ready, Willing and Rejected," this panel explores how sponsorship shapes career growth, board appointments, and access to opportunity across sectors and career stages. Panellists will share personal experiences of being sponsored, sponsoring others, and moving through systems where opportunity isn't always distributed equitably.
This is a space for honest dialogue about the collective responsibility leaders have to recognize talent, open doors, and build environments where more people can thrive, and what it actually looks like when they do.

WORKSHOP C:
Build Your Network
Networking has a reputation problem, especially for women and gender-marginalized leaders who've experienced it as transactional, performative, or designed for people who already have access to the right rooms. This workshop reframes it entirely, exploring networking as a relationship-building practice rooted in community rather than competition. You'll map the relationships already in your corner and leave with a clear, intentional plan for the connections you want to build going forward.
WORKSHOP D:
Know Your Worth: Negotiation, Opportunity & Career Advocacy
Most people know they should advocate for themselves, but far fewer feel equipped to actually do it, especially in rooms where the power dynamic isn't in their favour. This workshop is practical and direct, covering negotiation strategies and self-advocacy skills across a range of professional contexts, from salary conversations to stretch assignments to leadership opportunities. You'll leave with concrete tools to communicate your value and pursue opportunities with confidence.

We’re seeking social change and gender equity champions who have lived experience with these topics to lend their voice and presence to this event in one of 6 ways: as an emcee, a keynote speaker, a panelist, a panel moderator, a workshop facilitator, or a performance artist.
Whether you’re a seasoned pro behind the mic, or aspiring to become one, this could be your moment.

WHAT WILL I GET OUT OF THIS EVENT?
Room to Grow is designed to give you more than information. It's a full-day investment in yourself: in how you see your own leadership, how you show up for others, and what becomes possible when you're in a room full of people who actually get it.
Through mentorship conversations, guided reflection, and community-building across generations and sectors, you'll leave with something you can feel. Not just notes from a panel, but a clearer sense of where you're headed and who's in your corner.
By the end of the day, you'll walk away with:
CONFIDENCE
ADVOCACY TOOLS
CONNECTIONS
INNOVATIVE IDEAS
Whether you came in feeling certain of your next step, or you’re still figuring it out, our goal is the same: to ensure you leave this event with more clarity, more community, and a concrete sense of the direction you’re steering your career in.
