Muzna Erum [she/her]

Rise on Boards | Cohort 9

Muzna is an emerging journalist and advocate for inclusion and equity in media spaces. A recent graduate of the University of Toronto, she has co-led initiatives to create safer environments for student journalists of colour and organized events focused on the decolonization of Canadian media.

Through her experiences working at CBC, New Canadian Media, and as a News Associate Editor for The Varsity, her student newspaper, Muzna has developed powerful skills in communication, mentorship, and storytelling.

Passionate about amplifying underrepresented voices, Muzna strives to create spaces where all perspectives are heard and valued. In high school, she was involved with Plan International Canada’s Girls Belong Here program, where she advocated for better access to sexual health care for women in developing countries. She was also among the first members of the Muslim Advisory Council of Canada’s youth panel, advocating for issues affecting Muslim youth.

Currently, Muzna is developing a podcast that explores the lessons and challenges journalists of colour face in Canadian media spaces.
